ICTSI South Pacific inks agreement with PNG Maritime Union, Employees Federation

ICTSI South Pacific recently signed the Industrial Agreement for Stevedoring and Handling Workers & Other Support Services Employees with the PNG Maritime Union and Employees Federation, becoming the first port operator in PNG to sign the three-year agreement in 2020.

The labor agreement covers around 550 employees in Motukea International Terminal in Port Moresby and South Pacific International Container Terminal in Lae.  Robert Maxwell, ICTSI South Pacific Chief Executive Officer, signed the agreement together with Reg McAlistair, PNG Maritime Union General Secretary, and Florence Willie, Employees Federation Executive Director on 13 October.

“All the terms and provisions meet the agreements of the management of the Maritime and Transport Workers Union.  The last agreement was signed in 2016, and now we’re in 2020. It’s fantastic that we have this agreement for the next three years,” said Mr. Maxwell.

He adds: “The signing of this agreement during the COVID-19 crisis has paved the way for business continuity and shows confidence and support to the government because keeping these two ports open is key for PNG’s economy.”

ICTSI is proud to be setting the pace for the labor agreement for the whole industry and remains committed to supporting PNG’s people and economy.
