VICT to purchase additional hybrid ASCs
Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) is acquiring four new hybrid automated straddle carriers from Kalmar as part of its capacity expansion and initiative to lower emissions.
The ASCs are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will enhance VICT’s operational efficiency. The acquisition of hybrid equipment also supports the terminal’s sustainability goals.
“We value our partnership with Kalmar and their technical support,” said Bruno Porchietto, VICT chief executive officer.
“These new hybrid carriers are part of our expansion plan, which will increase our capacity to 1.5 million TEUs annually. This investment demonstrates our commitment to customer focus, innovation and sustainability, ensuring we can meet the growing demand for our services while minimizing our environmental impact,” he added.
With a twin-box lifting capacity of up to 60 tons, the ASCs run on Kalmar’s latest hybrid lithium-ion battery technology, contributing to an increase in energy efficiency by up to 40 percent and carbon emission reduction of 50 tons per unit annually.
