VICT commences Phase 3B expansion at Port of Melbourne

Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) fully automated operation at the Port of Melbourne, has broken ground on Phase 3B of its expansion program, marking another major investment in the terminal’s capacity and Victoria’s port infrastructure.

VICT Chief Executive Officer Bruno Porchietto led the groundbreaking ceremony with Philippine Consul General Jesus Domingo, Port of Melbourne Chief Executive Officer Saul Cannon and BildGroup Chief Executive Officer Steve Hill.

Phase 3B includes the development of two additional automated container yard blocks, the deployment of four new automated stacking cranes and the addition of an eighth neo-Panamax quay crane. The new quay crane is scheduled for delivery in the early second quarter of 2027, while the two container yard blocks are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“This expansion forms part of our long-term commitment to building the infrastructure and capability needed to support Victoria’s growing trade requirements. Phase 3B will give us additional capacity to serve our customers efficiently and reliably while creating lasting value for the wider Victorian economy,” said Porchietto.

Upon completion, the expansion will increase VICT’s capacity to 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU),supporting future trade growth and strengthening the efficient, reliable and integrated services the terminal provides to customers.
