RBT, Camorim team up to reduce CO2 emissions at the Port of Rio de Janeiro

Rio Brasil Terminal (RBT)and Camorim Serviços Marítimos has formalized a partnership that focuses on environmental sustainability at the Port of Rio de Janerio.

The two parties signed the agreement at the sidelines of Intermodal South America 2025, reaffirming their commitment to promote decarbonization and advance sustainable business practices across Brazil’s maritime port sector.

The partnership will see the use of shore power supplied by RBT to operate Camorim’s three azimuth tugboats. This reduces reliance on diesel generators, leading to a meaningful decrease in carbon emissions in the port area.

The tugboats, which operate for approximately six hours per day, are now connected to the terminal’s solar-powered electric grid while docked. With generators switched off for about 18 hours daily, RBT looks to lower carbon emissions by up to 665 tons annually.
