Ecuador’s first ZEDE breaks ground
Contecon Guayaquil has started construction of Ecuador’s first urban special economic zone (ZEDE) inside the Port of Guayaquil. The project spans 15 hectares with a total investment of nearly USD20 million, USD10 million of which is earmarked for the initial phase.
The ZEDE combines port access wit integrated logistics, providing direct connectivity to the country’s main highways and seamless operations with Contecon Guayaquil. The zone offers quay use, cargo transfer and end-to-end logistics solutions, supported by 24/7 security and modern infrastructure.
Businesses operating in the ZEDE will benefit from economic incentives, including a 5% ISD exemption, suspension or exemption of import duties and VAT, access to VAT tax credits, and an income tax exemption for the first five years followed by a reduced 15 percent rate.
The zone positions Ecuador as a competitive player in global trade, offering local and international companies a secure platform to innovate, add value and expand their reach. The ZEDE represents a strategic step in the country’s trade development, supporting job creation and investment growth.
