PH embassy in Baghdad Chargé d’affaires visits BGT

International trade is a fundamental aspect in ensuring Iraq’s development. With Umm Qasr as the largest and most active port in Iraq, Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) is recognized as a key strategic partner of Iraq’s economy.

To witness BGT’s achievements in person, His Excellency, Generoso D.G. Calonge, Charge d’Affaires from Philippine Embassy in Baghdad, recently visited the terminal at the Port of Umm Qasr.  A team from BGT accompanied Mr. Calonge for an extensive tour of the facility and discussed the terminal’s history, the current developments, as well as its goals and vision for the future.

The Philippine diplomat was also informed about BGT’s efforts to ensure the social and personal development of the Iraqi community.  The visit ended with lunch at BGT Camp Manila.

In a letter, Mr. Calonge extended his gratitude for the warm welcome by BGT.  He noted the great work being done by the Company in Umm Qasr, considering BGT is one of the biggest private investments from the Philippines.

Combining Umm Qasr’s maritime potential with International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) expertise in port development and operation, BGT will continue to play a key role in the country’s economic development.
