MCT reaches 2.5 million-TEU milestone

Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) has reached a milestone throughput of 2.5 million TEUs – an achievement that follows the consistently growing volumes at MCT over the last 13 years. The record number was achieved during the loading operations for Evergreen’s M/V Leopard last 4 October.

Since 2008, the significant ramp up in volume represents MCT’s increasing role as an important logistics hub linking trade in Northern Mindanao to global markets.  The terminal handles both international and domestic shipments and offers container handling, yard management, reefer monitoring, and water bunkering services, among others.ll

“We aim to help spur economic growth in the countryside, especially now that Northern Mindanao – through the Misamis Oriental Special Economic Zone – is poised to become a prime investment hub in the region,” said Roberto Locsin, MCT President and General Manager.

MCT started a modernization program in 2019 and introduced changes to existing processes towards a more client-centric approach. To further boost productivity, MCT upgraded its terminal operating system to NAVIS N4 and commissioned new equipment in anticipation of the surge in volume.

The terminal is working to become a transshipment hub that links Northern Mindanao to Visayas and the rest of the country, and ultimately the first port of call in Mindanao for international vessels.
