BGT joins the 100+ club with record productivity

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) recently set a new productivity record with the recent handling of one of the largest containers vessels to visit the Port of Umm Qasr.

During the call of Yang Ming Mutuality last 24 November, BGT set a new productivity record by completing a total of 1,768 moves in 17.5 hours.

“We are extremely proud to be able to exceed 100 moves per hour.  This speedy vessel operation enhances efficiency for our customers and the Port of Umm Qasr in general.  We strive and continue to look for ways to deliver operational excellence to all our customers,” said Phillip Marsham, BGT Chief Executive Officer.

BGT’s impressive productivity and performance is possible due to International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTS) USD250 million investment in the Port of Umm Qasr.  This includes the acquisition of three post-Panamax quay cranes, the largest port equipment in the country. With these cranes, BGT is the only terminal operator in Iraq capable of efficiently handling 14,000 TEU container vessels.

BGT’s investments in equipment and cutting-edge port technology are part of ICTSI’s strategy to modernize the Port of Umm Qasr.  These investments reinforce ICTSI’s position as a leading international port operator capable of generating the best terminal productivity levels in Iraq.
