VCT starts handling export shipments

Visayas Container Terminal (VCT) recently handled its first export shipment, marking a milestone in its operations. Fifteen 40-foot containers of agricultural export products from Iloilo were loaded onto the Regional Container Lines vessel Dana Bhum in mid-April for transshipment to Singapore. The export was facilitated through Orient Freight International’s global forwarding service.

“VCT delivers efficient and dependable port services that directly support the supply chains and market reach of businesses across Panay Island and nearby provinces," said John Largo, VCT chief executive officer.  "With ongoing improvements to our operations, the terminal is well-positioned to drive trade expansion and economic growth throughout Central Philippines," he added.

A significant development for VCT, the shipment also represents a promising step forward in expanding Visayas-based agricultural feed exports to the broader Southeast Asian market.

The exporter looks to double the next batch to 30 40-foot containers in May and projects a steady increase to around 45 40-footers per month moving forward.

“This projection underscores VCT’s growth momentum, which hopefully encourages other industries in the region to make VCT the preferred gateway for their exports,” Largo further added.

Since International Container Terminal Services, Inc. commenced operations at the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex, VCT has undergone modernization to enhance port operations and provide customers with enhanced services. The terminal plays a key role in driving trade and market expansion for local industries, particularly benefiting Western Visayas’ imports, as well as agriculture and fisheries exports.
