East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT) continues to reinforce its commitment to human capital development, welcoming three internship students as part of its structured internship program conducted over a three months from January to April. The program reflects the company’s long-term strategy to support the development of future-ready talent aligned with the evolving needs of the port and logistics industry.

The program provides students with direct exposure to the operational and engineering dynamics of a multipurpose terminal, including container and general cargo handling, safety standards and port support functions. Through hands-on involvement and close supervision, interns gain insights beyond academic theory while developing professional discipline and workplace readines.

Patrick Chan, EJMT chief executive officer, said “The port and logistics sector is evolving rapidly, driven by technology, efficiency, and global operational standards. At EJMT, we see internship programs not merely as academic requirements, but as an investment in the future workforce. By exposing students to real, operational environments over a structured three-month period, we contribute to shaping professionals who are ready to meet industry challenges from day one.”

From an operational and technical perspective, the program ensures meaningful learning rather than observational experience. Ralph Abendan, EJMT engineering manager, emphasized the importance of structured mentorship in developing young technical talent: “From January to April, we deliberately involve the interns in real engineering and operational processes under close guidance. They are introduced to internationally benchmarked heavy equipment, safety systems and operational technologies used at EJMT.”

The program has received strong appreciation from Universitas Negeri Malang (State University of Malang). Representing the university, Prof. Dr. Hardika, M.Pd, Institute for Educational and Learning Development head, expressed the institution’s recognition of EJMT’s commitment.

“Universitas Negeri Malang extends its sincere appreciate to East Java Multipurpose Terminal for its commitment to receiving, mentoring and guiding our students through a structured three-month internship program that truly reflects industry standards,” said Prof. Dr. Hardika.

EJMT’s internship aligns with EJMT’s commitment to sustainable business practices, where talent development and knowledge transfer serve as enablers of long-term operational excellence.
