Safety milestone reflects strengthened on-the-ground practices at BGT

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) has recently recorded 2.3 million safe man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI), underscoring its focus on operational safety and workforce protection.

The milestone reflects changes in how safety is managed on the ground. Safety meetings were redesigned to focus on operational risks and open dialogue. The near-miss reporting system was strengthened to identify hazards early and address unsafe conditions promptly.

These efforts are supported by structured training programs. Employees continuously undergo equipment-specific technical training, defensive driving sessions, emergency response drills, and refresher safety certifications. Supervisors and frontline teams also participate in regular toolbox talks and scenario-based workshops to reinforce safe work practices and risk awareness.

Together, these measures sustain a safety culture centered on hazard prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement across operations.
