New quay cranes for Contecon Manzanillo
Arrival of Contecon Manzanillo’s new quay cranes on September 29.
Contecon Manzanillo recently took delivery of two new quay, enhancing its capacity to accommodate larger vessels and respond to growing cargo volumes at the Port of Manzanillo.
Part of the terminal’s fourth phase of expansion, the new cranes increase Contecon’s quay crane fleet to 14 units. They can handle ultra-large container vessels of up to 400 meters long with 61-meter beams.
“These cranes represent much more than the addition of new equipment; they are part of Contecon’s evolution and our ability to continue growing alongside the Port of Manzanillo,” said José Antonio Contreras, Contecon Manzanillo chief executive officer.
“With these additions, we consolidate our position as the terminal with the largest infrastructure and operational capacity in Mexico, with a total of 14 quay cranes. This enables us to meet the current and future needs of international trade while strengthening Manzanillo’s position as one of the country’s leading logistics hubs.
Contreras added: “The vessels arriving at the port are becoming increasingly larger, and we want to be ready to handle them with the infrastructure and efficiency they require. We are very proud to see how this terminal has grown and how each new phase allows us to take another step forward.”
“For us, expanding capacity means strengthening every aspect of our operations, including the quay, container yards, access points and operational processes. That is what we are building through this new phase, and what will allow us to continue supporting the growth of international trade at the Port of Manzanillo,” Contreras concluded.
The arrival of the quay cranes follows the earlier delivery of five hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes, which offer reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
These new additions increase equipment availability for both quayside and landside operations.
Aside from the equipment acquisition, Contecon’s fourth phase expansion includes infrastructure works to increase the terminal’s overall capacity.
Contecon Manzanillo’s new hybrid RTG cranes arrived five days before the arrival of the quay cranes.
