MMT completes new eco-friendly bulk cargo bays
Manila Multipurpose Terminal is expanding its cargo-handling capacity with the completion of two additional eco-friendly bulk cargo bays (BCB).
The new structures increase the number of BCBs at the terminal to seven, expanding bulk storage capacity from 43,260 cubic meters to 61,404 cubic meters. Covering a combined area of nearly one hectare, the BCBs feature seven-meter walls that enclose cargo and mitigate the environmental impact of bulk operations by minimizing dust dispersion.
“This additional facility reflects our focus on sustainable infrastructure, ensuring we are well-positioned to meet rising demand responsibly,” said Mikkel Puyat, MMT chief executive officer.
MMT is also conducting dredging operations at the berths to maintain service levels for larger vessels and has invested in additional tractor heads for safer, more efficient cargo movement across the terminal.
The terminal continues to work closely with clients and stakeholders to strengthen port infrastructure, enhance operational capability and deliver value-added services.
