IF, BIPI expand mangrove conservation

The ICTSI Foundation (IF) and Bauan International Port Inc. (BIPI), in partnership with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), planted mangroves on February 20 in Barangay Banoyo, San Luis, Batangas.

This is the second batch of the ICTSI Mangrove Forest Enrichment Project, with 2,500 mangrove seedlings planted. The project aims to plant and maintain 25,000 mangrove trees across San Luis and Lian through 2028, with future phases focusing on maintenance, monitoring, and replacement planting to enhance coastal protection.

BIPI volunteers, led by Ferdinand Magtalas, General Manager, joined members of the Samahan ng mga Mangingisda sa Banoyo, along with representatives from local and provincial government agencies. Oscarlito Hernandez, Mayor of San Luis, lauded the collaboration among the private sector, civil society, and government, highlighting mangroves’ role in protecting coastlines and sustaining marine livelihoods.

IF, BIPI, and RAFI reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable, community‑driven environmental initiatives supporting the rehabilitation of Batangas’ coastal ecosystems.
