ICTSI‑supported athletes shine at Asian Indoor Athletics Championships

Athletes supported by the ICTSI Foundation through the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) delivered strong showings at the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China.

Ernest John Obiena topped the pole vault after clearing 5.50 and 5.70 meters on first attempts.

In the men’s 800 meters, Hussein Loraña posted the third‑fastest overall time in his first indoor outing, though he missed the finals as only the top two per heat advanced.

Leonard Grospe finished sixth in the high jump, while Olympian John Cabang Tolentino placed fifth in the 60‑meter hurdles.

Obiena also took bronze at the INIT Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe 2026 in Germany as he continues his indoor campaign. Both Obiena and Tolentino remain in contention for the World Athletics Indoor Championships on March 20–22 in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.

Grospe and Loraña now turn to their next meets. Grospe prepares for the Asian Beach Games on April 23–26 in Sanya, China, while Loraña targets the Asian U23 Athletics Championships on July 9–12 in Ordos, China.
