ICTSI South Pacific champions gender diversity
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) subsidiaries in Papua New Guinea are creating more opportunities for women in roles traditionally dominated by men, particularly in operations and engineering.
At Motukea International Terminal (MIT) in Port Moresby and South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) in Lae, female employees function in diverse departments including human resources, finance, customer service, safety, IT, and operations. This reflects the growing shift toward gender diversity in Papua New Guinea’s port sector.
The movement coincides with the country’s preparations to celebrate its 50th year of independence on September 16, marking broader progress toward inclusion and equality.
During a recent visit, Filipina C. Laurena, ICTSI Foundation executive director, met with female employees from MIT and SPICT and encouraged them to pursue professional growth in the industry. She highlighted their increasing contributions to port operations, from managing logistics to handling cargo, and underscored that women can succeed in any field they choose.
ICTSI and its Foundation recognize the women driving change in the sector and support a future where opportunities are open to all.
