ICTSI highlights Subic Port upgrades

Mikkel Puyat, ICTSI Commercial Director for the Philippines Cluster

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) and its subsidiary, Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. (SBITC), discussed new infrastructure plans and ongoing improvements for Subic Port during the Third Central Luzon Transport and Trade Conference, held June 19 at the Clark Marriott Hotel in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

The updates form part of broader efforts to position Subic as a key logistics hub for Northern and Central Luzon, offering an alternative gateway to Manila ports.

Mikkel Puyat, ICTSI Commercial Director for the Philippines Cluster, said Subic’s proximity to major economic zones—including Clark, Pampanga, Bataan, and Tarlac—makes it well-placed to support regional trade growth.

He outlined several upcoming projects, including increasing reefer plug capacity to 1,000 by the end of 2025, automating gate operations by early 2026, and deploying four low-emission rubber-tyred gantry cranes next year. A longer-term plan involves the arrival of four Post-Panamax quay cranes by 2032 to boost container-handling capabilities.

Digital enhancements, such as the ICTSI App, are also being introduced to improve cargo tracking and port coordination.

Organized by PortCalls, the conference drew more than 250 industry stakeholders to discuss infrastructure, connectivity, and logistics strategies for Central Luzon.
