ICTSI Foundation aids Mayon evacuees

Delivery of relief goods to evacuees in Ligao City, Albay

The ICTSI Foundation, International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) social responsibility arm, has provided more than PhP10 million in aid to the families displaced by the continuing unrest of Mayon Volcano.

With the help of the police and the military, the Foundation distributed around 6,000 sacks of rice to affected families, who are temporarily sheltered in 36 evacuation centers. The Foundation also turned over a buffer stock of more than 4,000 sacks of rice to support the expected three to four-month stay of affected families in the evacuation centers.

The towns benefitting from the initiative are Ligao City, Guinobatan, Camalig, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot and Sto. Domingo.

ICTSI Foundation Executive Director Filipina C. Laurena emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector during times of crisis: “We understand the significance of joint efforts in supporting communities during challenging times, and we remain committed to providing assistance where we are able.”

It has been more than a month since the Mayon Volcano entered a state of heightened unrest. The Albay provincial government continues to appeal for help as the possibility of a huge eruption within weeks or days remains a significant concern.
