ICTSI employees recently attended a seminar titled "New Paradigms for 2025 Through Sports," which explored how endurance activities can promote well-being and work-life balance.

The event featured insights from employees who are passionate about endurance sports such as scuba diving, multisport racing, triathlon, cycling, and open-water swimming.

Marie Annalie Marfil of Global PR described scuba diving as both adventurous and meditative. “The rewards, such as stress relief, mental clarity, and a deeper appreciation for nature, are immeasurable,” she said. While noting the initial investment required for equipment and training, she emphasized the long-term benefits.

Marfil also highlighted the challenges and rewards of multisport racing and triathlons, encouraging participants to prioritize nutrition and recovery as key elements of success. “It’s about knowing what you want and staying committed to achieving it, both in sports and in life,” she said.

Leo Concepcion, also from Global PR, presented cycling as a sport that offers freedom and adventure. “It is not the length of life but the depth of life,” he said. An avid triathlete, Concepcion also shared tips on open-water swimming, including cadence control, bilateral breathing, and pace management. He emphasized how swimming builds mental resilience and fosters a connection to nature.

Mark Hernandez of the Multimodal Logistics Solutions team reflected on the broader lessons endurance sports teach. “Sports teach us grit and resilience,” Hernandez said. “It’s about pushing through challenges and staying innovative, both in training and in life.” He explained how perseverance gained through sports translates to both personal and professional growth.

Veejay Calutan of Global Investor Relations & ESG offered practical advice for aspiring cyclists, emphasizing the importance of staying within budget. He recommended essential gear such as helmets, water bottles, and sunscreen. Calutan also highlighted cycling’s benefits, including improved cardiovascular health and a sense of community.

Ron Rodriguez of MICT ITSS shared his personal journey with endurance running and introduced the concept of the vertical kilometer, a physically and mentally demanding event. “Sports help us destress and disconnect,” Rodriguez said. “It’s a reminder to prioritize our health in a fast-paced world.”

Organized by Global Corporate Human Resources, the seminar underscored how endurance sports contribute to physical health, personal development, and work-life balance. Through personal stories and practical tips, the event inspired employees to incorporate endurance activities into their routines, enhancing their overall well-being and workplace performance.
