ICTSI Academy strengthens frontline leadership

Driving Performance Program particpants from TecPlata

ICTSI Global Academy expanded leadership development with the rollout of its Driving Performance (DP) program at three terminals: Sociedad Puerto Industrial Aguadulce S.A. (SPIA) in Colombia, TecPlata S.A. in Argentina, and Subic Bay International Terminals Corp. (SBITC) in the Philippines. The initiative helped frontline teams build supervisory capability, strengthen coordination, and reinforce safe, efficient operations.

SPIA launched the training first and introduced the modules in stages to give employees time to apply each lesson before moving to the next. Trainers Katherine Cabrera and Lina Ramón facilitated one or two sessions every 15 days from September 15 to November 12. Discussions focused on productivity, safety leadership, customer service, communication, and simple improvement actions that support daily operations.

Materials were translated into Spanish and adjusted to SPIA’s operational context. Terminal support came from Alvaro Otero, SPIA chief executive officer, along with ICTSI Global Academy and regional HR leaders.

TecPlata continued the rollout by delivering a full week of DP training through its newly developed internal training capability. Trainers Eliana Lipnep and Cecilia Martins facilitated the program after completing ICTSI’s Regional Train the Trainers Workshop. They translated the content into Spanish and used examples drawn from TecPlata’s operations to help participants link each concept to their work on the ground.

Regional collaboration strengthened the sessions through contributions from Antonio García, a Contecon Guayaquil SA certified trainer, who co-facilitated the operations modules. Juan Pablo Trujillo, TecPlata chief executive officer, ensured the program aligned with the terminal’s development priorities.

SBITC completed the most recent round of DP training for 18 supervisors from November 24 to 28. Pam San Jose and Marge Cuadera, ICTSI Academy facilitators, led sessions on communication, safety leadership, operational discipline, and team coordination. Yard and vessel scenarios were used to illustrate how clear direction and steady supervision shape daily operations.

During the training week, Daragh Henry, ICTSI head of Global Corporate Occupational Health and Safety, visited SBITC during lunch to check in with the team and personally congratulate them on achieving one million safe man-hours. The rollout was supported by  Philippe Baudry, SBITC executive director, and Olga Ureta, HR head.

Across the three terminals, ICTSI Global Academy strengthened local facilitation capability and broadened access to leadership development. The program equips frontline leaders with practical tools for guiding teams and supports ICTSI’s goal of building consistent operational practices across regions.

Global champions of the initiative include Robin Cruickshanks, ICTSI vice president for Global Human Resources, and Anders Kjeldsen, ICTSI senior vice president for Latin America, whose guidance continues to support the program’s growth across the network.
