International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) Executive Vice President and Global Corporate Head Christian R. Gonzalez was named Godfather of the Year by the Philippine Sports Commission–Philippine Paralympic Committee–Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC-PPC-POC) Media Group during the 5th Siklab Youth Sports Awards on October 11 at the Diamond Hotel Manila.
The PSC-PPC-POC Media Group, composed of sports journalists, recognized Mr. Gonzalez for advancing youth sports through the ICTSI Foundation’s sports initiatives.
“Our athletes bring pride to the nation,” Mr. Gonzalez said in a recorded message. “The private sector will continue to stand with them and the values they represent.”
As ICTSI Foundation president, Mr. Gonzalez has helped expand the company’s partnership with the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA), providing support for athletes including pole vaulter EJ Obiena and sponsoring grassroots events like the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships.
The event, themed Honoring the Nation’s Rising Sports Heroes, also presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Cynthia Carrion of the Gymnastics Association of the Phlippines, and named gymnast and Paris Olymics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo as Idol of the Year. Patrick Gregorio, PSC chair, served as guest of honor, while Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, IOC executive board member, delivered the closing remarks.
Now in its fifth year, the Siklab Youth Sports Awards highlights young athletes who have excelled in national and international competitions, including Batang Pinoy and Palarong Pambansa.
