Contecon Manzanillo advances decarbonization with electric tractors

Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA) is advancing its environmental goals by integrating electric terminal tractors into operations at the Specialized Container Terminal II in the Port of Manzanillo. The introduction of electric tractors marks another milestone in the terminal’s push toward lower-emission cargo handling.

Manufactured by SANY, the new tractors are powered by rechargeable batteries, eliminating direct tailpipe emissions while supporting uninterrupted operations through on-site charging infrastructure.

The acquisition forms part of a broader equipment modernization program that will see the terminal gradually increase its electric tractor fleet over the coming years. The initiative complements other sustainability investments, including hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes, as CMSA continues to improve operational efficiency while reducing its environmental footprint.
