BGT streamlines tractor operations

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) has streamlined its operations by enabling tractor drivers to navigate their way around the container yard without assistance from marshals on the ground
This development was made possible with the integration of vehicular-mounted terminals (VMT), tools that guide drivers from the quay to the specific container drop-off points in the yard. BGT first rolled out VMTs this October during operations on the PIL vessel Kota Rahmat, involving three quay cranes, 15 terminal tractors and four rubber-tired gantries. The successful execution is a leap forward in BGT’s digital transformation journey, driving improvements yard efficiency, safety and productivity.
BGT also introduced automation that streamlines billing processes and improves the accuracy of operational reporting, further reinforcing the terminal’s commitment to data-driven performance and transparency. These developments mirror BGT’s continuing pursuit of innovation, operational excellence and sustainable growth.
By embracing smart technologies and upskilling its workforce, BGT sets the standards for efficiency and digital advancement within Iraq’s maritime sector.
