BGT reduces paper use
Basra Gateway Terminal is implementing initiatives to reduce operational expenses while enhancing efficiency and sustainability.
One of the major steps taken is the reduction in paper consumption. Printed copies of equipment checklists have been removed and replaced with digital alternatives, employing the same level of control and compliance while eliminating unnecessary printing.
In addition, the practice of distributing printed discharging stow plans has been discontinued. These plans are now accessed digitally through tablets, enabling real-time visibility, easier access for operational teams and improved accuracy during vessel operations.
Another initiative currently being developed is the removal of printed EIR copies provided to shipping lines. In collaboration with the IT Department, the initiative will deliver EIR reports electronically, further reducing paper usage and manual handling.
Furthermore, the printing format for Gate TID and EIR documents will be optimized with the planned shift from A4 paper to thermal printing. This will reduce printing costs, speed up gate transactions and support more efficient document handling.
