Batu Ampar Container Terminal (BACT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation in Batam, Indonesia, welcomed the maiden call of Maersk’s TX4 service, establishing a direct connection between Batam, Ningbo and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas.

The service links Batam businesses with Ningbo, one of China’s leading manufacturing and shipping hubs, while providing access through Tanjung Pelepas to Maersk’s wider regional and global network. It gives importers and exporters an additional shipping option to support Batam’s manufacturing and trading sectors.

The ad hoc call was made by the 172-meter MTT Sapangar, which has a capacity of 1,762 twenty-foot equivalent units.

“The TX4 service gives businesses in Batam another direct link to important regional gateways and broader access to international markets. It affects the growing confidence of our shipping partners in Batam and BACT’s capability to meet the evolving requirements of local industries,” said Sky Huang, BACT chief executive officer.

“We will continue working closely with shipping lines and other stakeholders to provide reliable, efficient services that support the growth of trade and industry.”

Maersk believes that including Batam in the TX4 service could strengthen its network coverage and provide customers with more direct access to key Asian markets. Intra-Asia trade connects major manufacturing and consumption centers across the region. Through calls such as this, Maersk continues to explore service options that support customers’ evolving supply chain requirements.

BACT is the primary container terminal serving Batam, a special economic zone strategically located along the Malacca Strait, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. The terminal has 1,032 meters of operational quay, five ship-to-shore cranes and a developed backup area supporting current operations and future cargo growth.
