MICT-SDU, PIAN resume community-based health programs

The MICT Sustainability and Development Unit and the Parola Inter-Agency Network has resumed the implementation of community-based health programs.

Anchored on the United National Nations’ Sustainable Goals for 2030, specifically Zero Hunger and Good Health and Well-being, PIAN’s Batang Parola, Batang Masigla community-based feeding program was resumed after the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila.  The team prepared meals and delivered them to the children enrolled in the program with the help of community volunteers.

The program currently has 24 child beneficiaries, whose parents also receive guidance on preparing low-cost nutritious meals.  Each child receives one lunch meal per day, five days a week, based on the meal plan prepared by PIAN’s partner organization.  Regular weight monitoring is also conducted every day to keep track of the children’s progress.

Aside from the feeding program, PIAN also organized a community health drive with the help of the Center for Community Transformation (CCT).  Parola residents were given free medical consultation and vitamins to help boost their immune system.  Several young males also availed of the free circumcision.

Parola residents who availed of the free medical consultations were given medicines and vitamins.

Stakeholder engagement in the new normal

The MICT Sustainability and Development Unit, Parola Inter-Agency Network, and Taskforce Parola (TFP) continued to work together during lockdown to stay on top of their goals.  PIAN, which focuses on the improvement of the social welfare aspect of its host community, held virtual meetings to discuss innovations and adjustments to the way their programs are implemented.  TFP, on the other hand, leveraged mobile communication to address immediate concerns.  After the lockdown was lifted, TFP resumed face-to-face meetings while strictly observing the health protocols recommended by the Department of Health. The ICTSI Foundation provided a safe venue for these meetings.

Resilience is the key to adapting to the new normal. Despite the challenges in today’s trying times, the MICT Sustainability and Development Unit, together with PIAN and TFP, will continue its mission to create inclusive and sustainable development for MICT and its host communities through meaningful stakeholder engagement.
