BGT leads rehab of AMAR school

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), in cooperation with major shipping lines operating in the city, recently completed the rehabilitation of an AMAR school in Basra.

The project includes the rehabilitation of the school’s water supply system, installation of new power outlets and doors, upgrade of lighting and furniture, and renovation of the school yard, which is now more suitable for children to play in.

“BGT embraces the opportunity to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for Iraq’s youth. We are honored to step in and be able to support this simple yet very meaningful project, which we believe would contribute to the improvement of the learning process for kids. We thank our partners for helping us and sharing our vision to help the country’s youth,” said Phillip Marsham, BGT Chief Executive Officer.

“This school means so much for the students. It rehabilitates children coming from different parts of the Basra and other cities where nobody cared about them. It provides them with a nurturing environment, which is missing in their lives,” said the school principal.

AMAR schools offer international standard education programs at a low cost. The schools aim to provide vulnerable children in Iraq and Lebanon with access to quality education. They are built by the AMAR Foundation, one of the leading charities in the Middle East founded by Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne in 1991 to help rebuild lives in the region.
