Contecon Guayaquil is first Ecuadorian port to deploy next-gen scanners

Contecon Guayaquil S.A. has successfully deployed next-generation port scanners as part of its commitment to port efficiency and security, becoming the first terminal in Ecuador to comply with the government’s Executive Decree 227 that mandates the installation of these devices across the country’s ports.

GSA invited clients and regulatory authorities for a demonstration of the scanners’ performance and highlighted the meticulous planning behind their implementation. Aside from enhancing security, the scanners are also aimed at improving cargo movement to maintain the efficient performance of the terminal.

“With the operation of the scanners, all vehicles entering the terminal are now subject to rigorous inspection whether they are trucks with full or empty containers, general cargo vehicles, among others,” said Javier Lancha, CGSA chief executive officer.

Manufactured using French technology, the scanners are designed to inspect vehicles moving at a speed of seven to 15 kilometers per hour. CGSA has invested more than USD15 million for the purchase of the equipment and infrastructure redesign to accommodate the installation.

The project has been developed in close collaboration with the authorities since last year. It represents a significant step forward for Ecuador’s foreign trade competitiveness and reinforces CGSA’s commitment to security and innovation. With the scanners fully operational, CGSA fulfills its goal of providing world-class port service and status as a key player in global trade.
