In July 2007, ICTSI, through ICTSI Ltd., concluded agreements to start the construction and development of a new multi-user container terminal at the Port of Buenaventura in Colombia. ICTSI also acquired stakes in two Panamanian companies to gain effective control of Sociedad Puerto Industrial de Aguadulce S.A. (SPIA). SPIA owns 250 hectares of land in the Aguadulce Peninsula in Buenaventura. SPIA was granted by the Colombian National Institute of Concessions a 30-year concession to develop, construct and operate a container, grainsand coal handling facility in Aguadulce.
The development of the port will be done in three phases. The first phase will yield an annual capacity of 450,000 TEUs with 2 berth positions.
In September 2013, ICTSI and PSA International Pte. Ltd. (PSA) signed a joint venture agreement to develop the Multi-User Container Terminal. ICTSI and PSA, through their subsidiaries, jointly own 91.28 percent of SPIA.
